Die Wende  (German pronunciation: [diː ˈvɛndə]The Change,The U-Turn or The Turnaround) is a German term that has come to signify the complete process of change, from the rule of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and a centrally planned economy to the revival of parliamentary democracy and market economy in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) around the years 1989 and 1990. It encompasses several processes and events which later have become synonymous with the overall process. These processes and events are: the Peaceful Revolution, a time of massive protest and demonstrations (Montagsdemonstrationen – "Monday demonstrations" and Alexanderplatz demonstration) against the political system of the GDR and for civil and human rights[1] in  the Fall of 1989.

the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989 following a press conference held by the Politbüro during which Günter Schabowski announced the opening of the border checkpoints.the transition to democracy in East Germany following the Peaceful Revolution, leading to the only democratic elections to the Volkskammer in the GDR on 18 March 1990.[2]the process of German reunification leading to the Einigungsvertrag (Treaty of Unification) on 31 August 1990, the Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany on 12 September 1990 and finally the joining of the five re-established East German Länder to the Federal Republic of Germany.

We are children of the turn

Impressions of an Age of Change

in the queue waiting ... for what ever may come. Just to live and or just to survive.1984 ... my year of birth.Memories of my childhood. If someone asks: which color has the sandmännchen? Be prepared to give the correct answer! When does your father come back home? Where he is right now and for how long he will be away?Do you know sesame street? Who is lord of Bödefeld?Do you like haribo ...?My father was a sailor and has seen the world and sees it today with others eyes .... At that time a lot of pressure when one escaped again. Great thing and the Stazi keeps asking. Questions, questions, questions...?As a child it means that you should always ask if you do not know. but what if one be found constantly ask, on the one trimmed exactly to know how to get around and what are the most sought answer after which no more question comes...Scratched with cleverness ... without seeming to lose. monthly visit from the kindergarten auntie. I was sitting under a table in the dining room always when mom and Ms. Zöllner were talking in the living room. Why does this woman come to us?If you are alone let noone come inside the house. Say you can not open the door until your sister comes back.My father has seen the world ... africa, to equador through the panama canal ... suez canal ... argentinia, peru, tokiyo, cape town ... early these names sounded in my ears and I knew without knowing exactly what they exactly mean ... that they are freedom. Liberty, freedom and the shine in the eyes of my father when he told me about these distant places. The freedom to see, as it was getting tight in the own country. My favorite joke ... the joke of the pig. Please just tell it once again.Bananas in exchange for everything ... what was possible. And one more thing ...that comes later. Pssssst I know what ...oh yes you are just ossis! understood but not really, what does it means to be born in the east.
